
The iT HOUSE was constructed in a matter of weeks from prefabricated components that were delivered to the site by each manufacturer, and then assembled. The building uses both active and passive techniques and smart appliances to maintain its independence from the energy grid.
Borrowing from established ideas of just-in-time manufacturing and a global shipping network, the iT house is manufactured without a central factory. – TKA
Because of it’s off the grid attitude, this otherwise strictly modernist dwelling expresses its contemporary personality with a dignified honesty. Minimalist in character, the project was extremely well-orchestrated before construction; its siting (in the Yucca Valley of California) and passive measures are essential to the dwelling’s comfort.
A notable element of the design:
To further enhance the relationship between occupant and surroundings, a secondary graphic program adds another layer of custom tailoring to the project. These ‘outfits’, developed by invited art and design collaborators, are made out of laser cut vinyl and function as indoor/outdoor wallpaper. – TKA
